Photographer Tim Laman had to climb to a blind high in the rain forest canopy of Waigeo Island, Indonesia, to make this image of a red bird of paradise (Paradisaea rubra) spreading his wings on a display perch at sunrise. One of about 40 bird of paradise species, the red bird of paradise is found only on two small islands off western New Guinea.
